NEOMED Early Assurance Undergrad Track

The NEOMED-ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Early Assurance Undergrad program is a collaboration between Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ that gives undergraduate students a head start toward medical school. This program is designed for students passionate about becoming doctors and serving underserved areas. 

Here's How It Works:

  • Early Acceptance: Students apply typically during their second year at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ. If offered early assurance, students receive conditional admission to NEOMED.

 

  • Academic Requirements: Students offered early assurance must maintain overall and BCPM GPA of 3.4 & earn a required MCAT score. 

 

  • Experiential Learning: Students gain access to hands-on learning like job shadowing and physician mentors by earning our Urban Health Certificate (required) 

 

  • Advising and Support: Students are assigned a P2P advisor and have access to MCAT and science course tutoring. 

 

  • Direct Path to Medical School: Direct entry to NEOMED if all requirements are met 

Admission and Program Information

SECTION A (must meet ALL of the following requirements)

  • enrolled sophomore or junior at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ
  • Overall GPA of 3.4 or greater 
  • Overall BCPM GPA of 3.4 or greater 
  • Completed BIO 200/201, CHM 261/266 and CHM 262/267 with grade of C or better
  • **If applying for 1-year undergraduate track, candidates are required to earn a MCAT score of 498 or greater, before 1st round of interviews (February of the application cycle).

SECTION B (recommend at least two of the following requirements)

  • Resident of Ohio 
  • Pell Grant eligible 
  • Come from a disadvantaged background or whose school district tested in the lower 50th percentile on state standardized testing or was eligible for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program for two or more years 
  • Come from an underserved background or from a low-income household
  • First to go to college in your family, veteran or graduate of the foster care system

*Section B is not a requirement. All students are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must be on track to successfully complete a bachelor's degree program at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ (the reserved seat is forfeited should you transfer) and complete all pre-requisite courses with a grade of "C-" or better to matriculate to NEOMED.

These required pre-requisite courses include:

  • Two semesters of Organic Chemistry with One Lab
  • Two semesters of Physics and Labs
  • Two semesters of Biology 
  • One semester of Biochemistry

and 

Overall GPA & BCPM GPA of 3.4 

and 

MCAT Score of: 

  • 498 or above if matriculating to the medical school in 2026 (1-year track)
  • 502 or above if matriculating to the medical school in 2027 (2-year track)

 

All offers of admission are contingent upon the successful completion of remaining prerequisite coursework. Academic performance that deviates significantly from that which secured admission may be revisited by the Admission Committee for consideration, including rescission of admission. Urban Health Certificate Courses: 

MCAT Prep: 

  • HSC 427 -Professional Development I (1 credits) ( 1st year Fall) 
  • HSC 429 - Professional Development II (1 credits) (1st year Spring)

Urban Health Seminar: 

  • HSC 434/534 Urban Health I (1 credit) (1st year Fall)
  • HSC 461/561 Urban Health II (1 credit) (1st year Spring)
  • HSC 463/563 Urban Health III (3 credits) (2nd year Fall)

Clinical Science Courses:

  • HSC 422 or 520 Physiology for the Clinical Sciences (4 credits) (2nd year)
  • HSC 475/575 Human Gross Anatomy (3 credits) (2nd year) AND
  • HSC 457/557 Human Gross Anatomy Lab (3 credit dissection lab) 

Total Credits: 18-20 credit hours 

Beginning with early assurance students matriculating to NEOMED 2026, early assurance students joining NEOMED from partnering undergraduate schools will complete a one-year master’s degree program of study at NEOMED prior to entry into the NEOMED M.D. program.  Students demonstrating complete mastery of pre-medical curriculum along with corresponding MCAT results will have an exciting set of one-year master’s degree choices from which to select prior to starting the M.D. program.

  • Upper Division Biology courses: Immunology BIO 412/413 or 512/513; Histology BIO 418/419 or 518/519; Genetics BIO 310/311, Cell Biology BIO 308/309

 

  • Upper Division Chemistry courses: Medicinal Chemistry I and II CHM 351/352

 

  • Additional clinical science courses: Pathology HSC 381/581; Neuroscience HSC 476/478 or 576/578

 

  • Psychology courses: PSY 101 - Introduction to Psychology, PSY 345 - Abnormal Psychology, PSY 372 - Memory and Cognition, PSY 481  Psychopharmacology, PSY 482 - Biological Basis of Behavior

Steps To Apply

Submit Preliminary Application and unofficial transcripts: Complete and submit a preliminary early assurance application along with all unofficial transcripts by December 31st deadline.

Interview: Candidates are notified if selected for a preliminary interview with P2P Committee by 3rd week of January. 

Nomination: Once interviews are conducted, students are nominated for an interview with NEOMED. Nominated students will receive instructions on how to submit secondary application to NEOMED. 

Only nominated students are encouraged to submit primary applications. Applications of non-nominated candidates will result in a denial by the medical school. 

Submit Primary Application to NEOMED via PostbacCas: 

Details to apply are sent to nominated students.  Nominated students will need the following in order to submit a complete primary application: 

  • Official transcripts
  • letter of recommendation 
  • pay fee of $141
  • Deadline to submit the secondary application via PostbacCas is February15th  

 

Second and final round of interviews:  Nominated candidates will be contacted by NEOMED if selected for an interview.  NEOMED will conduct their interviews and notify students if offered early assurance.
