Initiative creates new vision for intellectual property leadership in Ohio

�ϰ������ϲʿ�����¼���� has joined public universities from across the state in demonstrating their support for the “Ohio Intellectual Property (IP) Promise,” an initiative being led by Lt. Governor Jon Husted.

At a press conference held today at The Ohio State University’s Technology Commercialization Office, Ohio’s public universities showcased some of the creative ways they have responded to the Lt. Governor’s challenge to strengthen the state’s innovation economy, attract innovative researchers and serve as a magnet for investors and entrepreneurs. 

“The Ohio IP Promise will boost the state’s economy by fostering a culture of innovation and making it easier to attract and support faculty researchers and entrepreneurs while maintaining a high level of quality and excellence,” said Bruce Johnson, president of the Inter-University Council of Ohio. “Our universities look forward to continuing to work closely with the Lt. Governor and this Administration to bring the IP Promise vision to full fruition,.

“�ϰ������ϲʿ�����¼���� is committed to enhancing technology transfer, applied research and corporate partnerships for the good of our economy and society as a whole,” noted �ϰ������ϲʿ�����¼���� President Harlan M. Sands. “We are very proud to support the Ohio IP Promise and expand opportunities to get research out of the lab and into the hands of innovators across the state.”

�ϰ������ϲʿ�����¼����’s technology transfer and applied research initiatives include:

The TeCK Fund- A partnership with Kent State University to provide seed funding to faculty who are seeking to commercialize university research.

The Internet of Things Collaborative- A collaboration with Case Western Reserve University to provide the research and educational support necessary to create a regional hub for IOT development in Northeast Ohio.

The Innovation Portal- A unique web-based platform that connects local companies with targeted university resources that can assist them with addressing technology challenges they are facing.

“Our recent efforts to expand opportunities for industrial collaboration, mirror the goals of the Ohio IP Promise,” adds Jerzy Sawicki, Vice President for Research at �ϰ������ϲʿ�����¼����. “Moving forward, we will work with the state of Ohio and our fellow public universities to continue to make the technology transfer process quicker, more transparent and more flexible.”
