February 27 – March 9 at the Allen Theatre Second Stage

CLEVELAND – ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ’s Department of Theatre and Dance, a resident company of PlayhouseSquare, continues its second full season in the Allen Theatre complex with the production of the ancient Greek political comedy Lysistrata from February 27 through March 9 at the Allen Theatre Second Stage.

Written by Aristophanes and directed by ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Professor Allan Byrne, Lysistrata tells the tale of an Athenian woman who is tired of war and the treatment of women in Athens. In an act to change her situation, she meets with the women of Greece to hatch a plan to end the Peloponnesian War. What is her brilliant tactic? Lysistrata wants them all to refuse sex with their husbands until a treaty for peace has been signed.

Combining startlingly relevant topics with over-the-top sexual buffoonery, Lysistrata is a plea for peace wrapped in comic layers of the wiles and the equality of womanhood.

The cast features Emma Clark (Lysistrata); Leah Kraynak (Calonice); Natalie Phillips (Myrrhine); Naomi King (Lampito); Dominque Coppella (Reconciliation[Peace]/Woman); Nick Chokan (Rod [Cinesias]); Ben Merold (Magistrate); Ryan Tobbe (Spartan Ambassador); Jacob Boyle (Athenian Ambassador); Adam Campbell (Spartan Herald); Katie Huskey (Women’s Chorus Leader); Nadia Davis; Maurisha Dean; Kristen Kleemann-Whitney; Caleb Boquist (Men’s Chorus Leader); Will Crosby; and Richie Gagen.
