CALEA Assessment

The ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Police Department (ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD) will undergo a three-day, on site evaluation to ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies’ (CALEA) accreditation standards. A team of CALEA assessors will conduct an on-site assessment at ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD from February 10 – 12, 2020. This assessment includes a dedicated public call-in session, and in-person hearing, which will occur as outlined below.

In an attempt to obtain re-accredited status, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD must comply with 181 applicable professional standards. While on site, the assessors will review agency policies and practices, interview personnel and observe operations.

As part of the re-assessment, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments regarding ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD by telephone. The public may call (216) 687-9246 on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must directly address ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. There is also an opportunity for the public to take part in an in-person hearing with the assessors. This hearing will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 5 PM at the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏPD headquarters, 1840 Chester Ave, Cleveland.

The CALEA assessment team is composed of public safety and law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies. The ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼×ÊÁÏ Police Department is seeking its first re-accreditation – all CALEA accredited agencies are reassessed every four-years.
